Slayer's Plate turns any creature into a 4/4 with lifelink for just two mana to equip — but the equip cost resets to eight unless the equipped creature entered the battlefield this turn. That rider is punishing enough that Slayer's Plate belongs only in decks that reliably reattach it for free or flood the board with freshly played creatures.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t

In Commander, Slayer's Plate is a narrow include — the two-mana equip is genuinely strong, but only decks built around entering-the-battlefield triggers or token spam can dodge the eight-mana tax consistently enough to justify the slot. In Modern and Pioneer, the equipment landscape is too competitive: Colossus Hammer and Embercleave both close games faster, and Slayer's Plate's conditional equip cost makes it too clunky for those formats' tempo demands. Legacy and Vintage have no interest in a five-mana equipment that requires setup. Oathbreaker mirrors Commander in that a planeswalker commander rarely enables the enter-the-battlefield reset, so it's harder to slot there unless the signature spell cheats creatures into play.

$0.20 bulk tier
At $0.20, Slayer's Plate is pure bulk — buy a copy without thinking about it if the deck fits. Bulk equipment with conditional text rarely climbs in price, so treat this as a throw-in, not a pickup for future value.
