Skyclave Shade is a recursive 3/1 that keeps coming back from the graveyard as long as you're hitting land drops — the cost is that it enters tapped, which matters exactly zero when it's your third body off a single card slot. Anhelo, the Painter in particular gets obscene value here, copying the Shade's casualty trigger to fuel recast after recast.

Anhelo, the Painter
Anhelo, the Painter wants cheap, expendable creatures to sacrifice for casualty, and Skyclave Shade is exactly that — die to enable a copy, come back from the graveyard for free when you hit your next land drop, repeat every turn.

In Commander, Skyclave Shade fills the role of a recursive threat that punishes opponents for not having spot removal every turn — in a 100-card singleton format where redundancy is hard, that kind of self-replacing body is quietly above-rate. Modern and Pioneer have run Skyclave Shade in aggressive black shells as a reliable two-drop that dodges traditional card-disadvantage, though neither format has ever built around it as a centerpiece. Legacy treats it as a role-player at best — the bar for a 3/1 with no immediate impact is simply too high when the format operates at such speed. It's squarely a Commander and midrange-60-card card.

$0.17 bulk tier
At $0.17, Skyclave Shade is deep bulk — you're picking this up out of a commons-and-bulk bin. Bulk recursive creatures rarely spike unless a new commander breaks them wide open, so don't expect movement, but at this price there's no reason not to own a copy for every relevant deck.
