Skola Grovedancer turns every discard into a +1/+1 counter, making it a quietly threatening threat in any shell that already wants to pitch cards. Chains of Mephistopheles and Winter, Cynical Opportunist both create exactly the kind of forced, repeated discard that lets Grovedancer snowball into a legitimate clock without any additional investment.

Winter, Cynical Opportunist
Winter, Cynical Opportunist's gameplan revolves around making opponents discard repeatedly, and Skola Grovedancer converts every one of those discards into a permanent stat boost — the two cards form a self-reinforcing engine where Winter strips hands and Grovedancer grows large enough to close games.

In Commander, Skola Grovedancer slots cleanly into any discard-matters or Golgari-adjacent build, and it scales well in multiplayer because opponents discarding to multiple effects means more counters per rotation. In Pauper, green creatures at common rarely get free stats from other players' actions, which gives Grovedancer a real niche in any discard-synergy shell the format can support. Modern and Pioneer have enough incidental discard between hand disruption and looting effects that Grovedancer is at least worth considering as a sideboard threat in attrition matchups, though it rarely outcompetes dedicated payoffs at those power levels. Legacy's discard density is high enough that Grovedancer could grow fast, but the format's pace generally punishes slow-building threats before they matter.

$0.18 bulk tier
At $0.18, Skola Grovedancer is firmly bulk — you're picking it up as a throw-in, not a purchase. Bulk rares with narrow combo applications tend to stay at this floor unless a deck archetype breaks out, so don't expect movement.
