Skinwing is a six-mana living weapon that puts a 0/0 Germ token into play and attaches to it, giving the equipped creature flying and lifelink — which means a 3/3 flier with lifelink the turn it enters. The problem is that six mana for a 3/3 with upside is nowhere near competitive, and living weapon's self-equip gimmick only papers over the fact that you're getting a mediocre body at a steep price.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t

In Commander, Skinwing occupies a very narrow lane: equipment-tribal decks under Syr Gwyn, Hero of Ashvale or Rograkh, Son of Rohgahh that specifically want to inflate their equipment count and can recoup the mana cost through cost-reduction effects. Outside of that shell, six mana is too much for what amounts to a modest stat boost. In Pauper it's legal but essentially invisible — the format's aggressive clock punishes six-mana do-nothings harshly. Legacy and Vintage have access to better equipment at a fraction of the investment, so Skinwing never sees play there. The living weapon mechanic does give it one structural edge: it's never a dead card in hand since it arrives with its own host, making it marginally better than a vanilla equipment in Commander pods that run Bludgeon Brawl or similar.

Price Context
Current price
$0.10 bulk tier
At $0.10, Skinwing is deep bulk — you'll find it in a common box before you'd bother ordering it. Bulk equipment rarely appreciates unless a commander specifically warps demand around it, and nothing on the horizon does that for Skinwing.
