In Commander, Shadow Lance earns its slot only in focused lifegain decks or Voltron builds where stacking keywords on a single attacker matters — everywhere else, a creature with native lifelink does the same job without spending a card. In Legacy and Vintage, one-mana Auras are too fragile for competitive play; you're down a card the moment the creature dies to a Swords to Plowshares. Modern has long since moved past this kind of effect. Shadow Lance is a Commander card in the narrowest sense: playable in the right shell, invisible outside it.
