Separatist Voidmage enters the battlefield and bounces a creature — fine tempo, mediocre rate, stapled to a 2/2 body you'll rarely care about. The comparison point that matters is Dream Halls and similar free-cast enablers: when you're paying full retail at four mana, there are cleaner bounce spells that don't ask you to also accept a vanilla creature.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Separatist Voidmage is legal in every major format except Standard, but it sees essentially no competitive play in any of them. In Commander it occupies the low-powered end of bounce effects — playable in janky flicker shells or budget lists that need ETB triggers on a creature body, but cut the moment you upgrade. Pauper is the one format where its ceiling is highest, since the common card pool compresses the competition, though even there dedicated bounce spells outperform it. Legacy, Modern, and Vintage have no interest in a four-mana 2/2 with a comes-into-play bounce stapled on.

Current price
$0.11 bulk tier
At $0.11, Separatist Voidmage is deep bulk — you're paying for cardboard, not the effect. That price is stable by default: there's no demand pressure to push it up, and no reprint risk to push it down.
