See the Unwritten card art
See the Unwritten puts up to two creatures from the top eight cards of your library directly onto the battlefield — the Ferocious bonus effectively doubles the rate of an already-efficient cheat effect. Six mana is real, but the payoff in a deck built around large creatures is immediate and often game-deciding.

Best Commanders

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Mayael the Anima

Mayael the Anima

14.9% of decks · synergy 0.15

Mayael the Anima's entire game plan is cheating fatties into play, and See the Unwritten slots into that as redundancy that doesn't require tapping at end of turn — it can hit mid-combat or in response to a removal spell.

02
Surrak Dragonclaw

Surrak Dragonclaw

9.6% of decks · synergy 0.09

Surrak Dragonclaw decks run a high density of large creatures and want explosively proactive turns; See the Unwritten delivers two of them simultaneously once Ferocious is online, which is rarely hard to achieve in a Temur creature shell.

04
Alena, Kessig TrapperGilanra, Caller of Wirewood

Alena, Kessig Trapper // Gilanra, Caller of Wirewood

5.6% of decks · synergy 0.05

Alena, Kessig Trapper // Gilanra, Caller of Wirewood generates mana from high-power creatures entering the battlefield, so the two creatures See the Unwritten can put into play can immediately fuel the next spell.

Commander is where See the Unwritten does its best work — singleton means you want redundant cheat effects, and the Ferocious clause is easy to satisfy in any creature-heavy green deck. In Modern and Pioneer, six mana is too slow without a dedicated ramp shell, and fair creature decks would rather just cast their threats. Legacy has the density of fast mana to make expensive spells viable, but See the Unwritten competes against more consistent cheating engines there. Outside Commander, it's a niche card; inside Commander, it earns a spot in any deck running a critical mass of power-4-or-greater creatures.

Price Context

Current price

$0.53 bulk tier

At $0.53, See the Unwritten is bulk — you're paying essentially nothing for a card that can swing a Commander game on the spot. That price reflects low demand outside EDH, not low power, so there's no reason to hesitate on picking up copies.
