Choose one. If an opponent has eight or more cards in their graveyard, you may choose both instead.
• Copy target spell. You may choose new targets for the copy. (A copy of a permanent spell becomes a token.)
• Create a token that's a copy of target creature.

See Double copies any spell on the stack or any nonlegendary permanent on the battlefield — then, if you had a spell cast before it this turn, does both. At four mana in blue, that rate is absurd: you're getting two effects for the price of one the moment you sequence correctly. The ceiling is broken with Hidetsugu and Kairi or a self-milling engine like Mirror-Mad Phantasm, where copying a spell or creature mid-chain ends games outright.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

Hidetsugu and Kairi
Hidetsugu and Kairi's death trigger copies the top card of your library, and See Double lets you copy Hidetsugu and Kairi itself or any spell in the chain — stacking triggers and closing the loop in a single turn cycle. Over 60% of Hidetsugu and Kairi decks run it for exactly that reason.

Riku of Many Paths
Riku of Many Paths copies instants and sorceries natively, so See Double becomes a triple-effect play the moment Riku is on board — copy a spell with Riku, then See Double copies it again. That density is why it shows up in nearly half of all Riku of Many Paths lists.

Brudiclad, Telchor Engineer
Brudiclad, Telchor Engineer converts all your tokens into whatever token you made most recently, so a single See Double token copy can become an army-wide transformation. See Double generates the high-value token that Brudiclad, Telchor Engineer then replicates across the board.

Sakashima of a Thousand Faces // Vial Smasher the Fierce
Sakashima of a Thousand Faces // Vial Smasher the Fierce builds around having multiple copies of legendary creatures in play, and See Double slots in as a permanent-copy spell that bypasses the legend rule under Sakashima. The pairing turns every valuable creature on the board into a target worth doubling.

Adrix and Nev, Twincasters
Adrix and Nev, Twincasters doubles every token you create, so See Double's token copy of a creature immediately becomes two — netting four total copies of the original for four mana. That ratio is why over 20% of Adrix and Nev, Twincasters decks include it.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is where See Double lives — the format rewards high-ceiling, high-variance plays, and a four-mana spell that copies a permanent or spell (twice, with setup) is exactly that. In Legacy and Vintage, it's legal but the competition is too stiff: three-mana Snapcaster lines and Force of Will interactions leave little room for a four-mana conditional copy effect. Modern and Pioneer offer more space, but See Double demands a spell-heavy or permanent-copy shell to justify the slot, and those decks generally prefer redundancy over power spikes. Oathbreaker is a strong home for the same reasons as Commander — spell-focused spellshapers spike the double-cast trigger consistently.

Price Context
Current price
$0.88 bulk tier
At $0.88, See Double is firmly bulk despite doing something genuinely powerful, which means the window to pick up copies cheaply is open right now. It's the kind of card that stays affordable until a high-profile deck puts it on camera, so $0.88 is a real price, not a floor warning.
