Scrapyard Mongrel is a 3/3 for five mana that gains trample and +2/+2 when you control an artifact — conditional stats that land well below rate even when the trigger is live. Bulk rare territory: play it only in dedicated artifact builds where the bonus is guaranteed, and even then it's competing for slots against strictly better options.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t

Scrapyard Mongrel is a fringe card in every format it's legal in. In Commander, artifact-matters decks like Daretti, Scrap Savant or Breya, Etherium Shaper can reliably turn on the bonus, but a 5/5 trample for five with no ETB and no protection is still unimpressive at a table where threats need to demand immediate answers. In Pauper, where the bar is lower and artifact synergy decks exist, it's marginally more interesting, but Atog effects and recursive threats crowd it out. Legacy, Modern, and Pioneer have enough pushed artifact payoffs that Scrapyard Mongrel never sees serious play.

Price Context
Current price
$0.06 bulk tier
At $0.06, Scrapyard Mongrel is deep bulk — you're buying it out of a dollar box, not a binder. That price is stable simply because demand is negligible; don't expect it to move.
