Atog trades your artifacts for +2/+2 until end of turn, turning a board of spare rocks into a surprise one-shot threat. The cost is real — you're sacrificing permanents — but Nuka-Cola Vending Machine and similar token-generating artifacts mean you can often eat something disposable and still close the game.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | banned |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Atog is banned in Pauper, which is the one place it actually dominated — cheap artifacts and Fling made it a consistent kill machine at common rarity. Everywhere else it's legal, but Modern and Legacy have long since left a vanilla 1/2 behind unless you're building around it specifically. Commander gives Atog a genuine pass: the singleton format slows the combo pressure that made it oppressive, and commanders like Jaws, Relentless Predator create the artifact density needed to make the sacrifice payoff worthwhile.

Commanders with the highest synergy

Jaws, Relentless Predator
Jaws, Relentless Predator generates a stream of Food tokens through combat, giving Atog a renewable sacrifice engine — you eat Foods to pump in response to blocks, then let Jaws rebuild the supply next attack step.

Current price
$0.22 bulk tier
At $0.22, Atog is deep bulk — you're paying for the cardboard, not the card. The price won't move; it's been reprinted enough times that supply vastly outpaces demand outside Pauper, where it's banned anyway.
