Sangrite Backlash slaps a creature with +3/+0 and -3/-0 simultaneously — net three power shifted, no mana investment beyond the initial two, and it sticks until end of turn. It's a combat trick that punches harder than it looks in the right shell, but outside dedicated double-strike or pump synergies it's too narrow to justify a slot.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|

| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Sangrite Backlash is a fringe card in every format it touches. In Commander, the primary home, it belongs only in creature-combat decks that need a finisher trick — think Voltron strategies where one pump spell closes out a game of commander damage. In Pauper, where combat tricks see genuine play, it competes against strictly better options that don't require you to also weaken one of your own creatures or piggyback the debuff onto an opponent's. Legacy and Vintage don't care — the formats are far too fast and spell-efficient for a two-mana sorcery-speed effect to matter. The Grixis color identity locks it out of any Commander deck not running black, red, and blue together, which is a real constraint that shrinks the eligible pool considerably.

Price Context
Current price
$0.07 bulk tier
At $0.07, Sangrite Backlash is deep bulk — you'll find it in a commons box before you find it on a store's singles page. It holds no financial value and almost certainly never will, but if the effect fits your deck, the barrier to entry is as low as it gets.
