Sanctifier of Souls turns every creature entering your battlefield into a free 2/2 Spirit token — and it pumps itself each time one does, so the snowball is immediate. The five-mana cost is real, but in any white token or spirit shell, the value accrues faster than opponents can answer it.

Commander is where Sanctifier of Souls does its best work — token-generating engines are exactly what go-wide white strategies want, and a commander like Kykar, Wind's Fury or Thalisse, Reverent Medium turns every cast into a chain reaction. In Legacy, Modern, and Pioneer it's legal but too slow and too conditional to compete with purpose-built token payoffs at lower mana costs. Oathbreaker is a viable home for the same reason Commander is: longer games and more creature-heavy boards give it time to generate a meaningful number of tokens before the game ends.
