Saffi Eriksdotter card art
Saffi Eriksdotter is a two-mana sacrifice outlet and recursion engine in one body — sac her targeting a creature, that creature dies and returns, and with something like Viscera Seer in play you've got a loop. The cost is that she only saves one creature per loop iteration and requires a sacrifice outlet to do anything, so she's dead weight without the supporting pieces; in Karador, Ghost Chieftain shells those pieces are nearly always present, which is exactly why she belongs there.

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Karador, Ghost Chieftain

Karador, Ghost Chieftain

39.5% of decks · synergy 0.37

Karador, Ghost Chieftain's built-in graveyard recursion means Saffi Eriksdotter can re-enter the battlefield repeatedly without burning resources, fueling infinite loops with sacrifice outlets already common in the 99.

02
Kethis, the Hidden Hand

Kethis, the Hidden Hand

35.6% of decks · synergy 0.33

Saffi Eriksdotter is a legendary creature, so Kethis, the Hidden Hand can cast her directly from the graveyard — she slots into Kethis combo lines as a low-cost legendary that generates loops when paired with the right sac outlet.

03
Captain Sisay

Captain Sisay

23.1% of decks · synergy 0.21

Captain Sisay can tutor Saffi Eriksdotter directly onto the battlefield, and as a legendary herself she contributes to Sisay's chain of legendary toolbox fetches while doubling as a protection piece for other key legends.

04
Samwise Gamgee

Samwise Gamgee

16.7% of decks · synergy 0.15

Samwise Gamgee triggers whenever a nontoken creature returns from the graveyard, and Saffi Eriksdotter's recursion effect generates exactly those triggers — the two create a tight loop that produces Food tokens and can translate into a win with the right outlet.

Format Analysis

Commander is where Saffi Eriksdotter actually lives — the format's singleton density of sacrifice outlets and graveyard synergies means her combo potential is reliably available, and she's a two-mana legendary that curves cleanly into the early game. In Legacy and Vintage she's technically legal but sees no meaningful play; those formats move too fast for a creature-based loop that requires additional pieces. Modern is the same story — she's legal but outclassed by faster and more compact combo infrastructure. Saffi Eriksdotter is, straightforwardly, a Commander card.

Price Context

Current price

$1.40 cheap tier

At $1.40, Saffi Eriksdotter sits in the budget-combo tier — cheap enough to include without deliberation, priced low because her applications outside Commander are essentially zero. That price is stable; she's not a card that spikes, but she's also not going anywhere given sustained demand from Karador, Ghost Chieftain and Kethis, the Hidden Hand lists.
