Rupture turns any creature you control into a Fireball — sacrifice it, deal damage equal to its power to each opponent simultaneously. It's a niche card, but in the right deck (high-power creatures, or ones that want to die anyway), it closes games from nowhere.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is the only format where Rupture earns real consideration, and even there it needs the right shell — a commander that generates large tokens, pumps power across the board, or benefits from sacrifice. In Legacy and Vintage, where Rupture is technically legal, faster and more consistent damage outlets exist and this card sees no meaningful play. The card's ceiling is a Commander table where you sacrifice a Ghalta or an Emrakul-sized token and deal 12-plus to each of three opponents at instant speed; the floor is paying two mana to deal three damage and losing a creature.
