Rooftop Storm makes every Zombie you cast free, which in practice means Gravecrawler loops, infinite sacrifice triggers, and a board state that closes games the turn the enchantment resolves. Six mana is the real cost — it's a do-nothing until you untap, so it folds to instant-speed enchantment removal — but in any Zombie shell helmed by Wilhelt, the Rotcleaver, it's the highest-ceiling piece in the deck.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

Wilhelt, the Rotcleaver
Wilhelt, the Rotcleaver generates a Decayed token every time a non-Decayed Zombie dies, and Rooftop Storm turns that token loop into a free engine — you cast Zombies for nothing, sacrifice them to trigger Wilhelt, and rebuild the board repeatedly until something lethal sticks.

Varina, Lich Queen
Varina, Lich Queen rewards you for attacking with Zombies by drawing cards and filling the graveyard, and Rooftop Storm converts that graveyard into a free casting pool, letting you recast everything Varina mills without spending a single mana.

Grimgrin, Corpse-Born
Rooftop Storm and Grimgrin, Corpse-Born form one of the most direct win conditions in Zombie tribal — free Gravecrawler casts feed Grimgrin's sacrifice requirement, untapping him repeatedly and turning him into an unlimited removal engine and lethal threat in the same turn.

Temmet, Naktamun's Will
Temmet, Naktamun's Will cares about Zombies entering the battlefield and dying, and Rooftop Storm removes the mana ceiling that would otherwise cap how many triggers you generate per turn cycle.

Gisa and Geralf
Gisa and Geralf cast Zombies from the graveyard once per turn, but Rooftop Storm makes that cast free and lets the rest of your hand follow suit, collapsing the mana math that normally limits how much the deck can do in a single turn.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is where Rooftop Storm lives — Zombie tribal is one of the format's most popular tribes, and the enchantment's effect is uniquely broken at a 100-card, multiplayer table where the payoff for going infinite compounds across four opponents. Rooftop Storm is technically legal in Legacy, Modern, and Vintage, but six mana for an enchantment that requires a Zombie board to do anything is simply too slow for those formats, where the game is often decided by turn three or four. Oathbreaker is the one non-Commander 60-card-adjacent format where Rooftop Storm could see fringe play if the signature spell and planeswalker align with a Zombie package, but that's a narrow window. For practical purposes, treat this as a Commander-only card.

Current price
$2.58 cheap tier
At $2.58, Rooftop Storm is one of the cheapest win conditions you can slot into a Zombie deck — it shows up in over 21,000 Wilhelt lists alone, and that demand hasn't pushed the price much because supply has kept pace through reprints. It's a confident pickup at this price; the card's role in the format isn't going anywhere.
