Rise of the Ants drops a 1/1 Insect token with reach at the end of each combat — every combat, not just yours — and scales its power by paying additional green mana to pump that token up to a 4/4 before it arrives. The payoff is real in token-doubler and go-wide shells, but six mana to get the engine running is a steep ask in a format where six mana buys far more immediate impact.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Rise of the Ants is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Pioneer, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but its competitive ceiling across non-Commander formats is essentially zero — six mana for a slow token generator doesn't register in formats where the game is often decided by turn four. Commander is the only home where it can breathe: token-doubler commanders like Adeline, Resplendent Cathar or Myrkul, Lord of Bones give the incremental engine enough support to matter, and the multiplayer table means you're generating tokens on opponents' combats too. Even there, the six-mana entry point means it competes directly with haymakers that close games rather than grind them.

Price Context
Current price
$0.11 bulk tier
At $0.11, Rise of the Ants is deep bulk — the price reflects casual demand and nothing more. It won't appreciate, and if you're sleeving it up, you're doing so purely for the effect, not any financial upside.
