Reluctant Dounguard

In Commander, Reluctant Dounguard earns its slot in any deck that wants a cheap, persistent sacrifice outlet or undying synergy — it asks almost nothing to include and pays off every time the engine fires. Competitive non-rotating formats like Legacy and Modern have faster, more redundant options, so Reluctant Dounguard rarely makes the cut there outside of dedicated combo shells hunting specifically for its trigger. In Standard and Pioneer it's legal and plausibly playable in aristocrats-style strategies, though the power ceiling of those formats will determine whether it's good enough to see paper play. Pauper is the dark-horse format where a recursive common at one mana can genuinely break things, and Reluctant Dounguard warrants a look in any sacrifice shell that can leverage repeated death triggers.
