Relic Ward
Enchantment — Aura
You may cast this spell as though it had flash. If you cast it any time a sorcery couldn't have been cast, the controller of the permanent it becomes sacrifices it at the beginning of the next cleanup step.

Relic Ward makes one permanent you control untargetable by opponents — a reasonable defensive effect that requires you to spend two mana upfront and keep paying one blue to reattach it if the enchanted permanent leaves play. It's narrow protection at a real cost, and most Commander decks have better ways to protect key pieces.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Relic Ward occupies a niche role on high-value permanents — engines, combo pieces, or commanders you can't afford to let your opponents Swords to Plowshares. The problem is that most protection staples do more for less: Swiftfoot Boots and Lightning Greaves grant haste alongside hexproof, and neither asks you to pay a recurring tax. Relic Ward is legal in Legacy and Vintage as well, but those formats move too fast for a two-mana aura that doesn't affect the board state the turn it enters. Oathbreaker is the one context where protecting a single permanent matters enough that it might see fringe consideration.

Current price
$0.18 bulk tier
At $0.18, Relic Ward is firmly bulk — no barrier to picking it up if you have a specific use case in mind. Demand is low enough that the price is unlikely to move in either direction.
