Ravenous Giant

In Commander, Ravenous Giant belongs in aggressive red decks that plan to win before the life drain becomes meaningful — think Osgir, Goro-Goro, or any strategy already running damage-to-yourself synergies like Repercussion or Feldon of the Third Path shells. The 40-life starting total gives you more runway than other formats, but four opponents means the game rarely ends in three turns, which makes the upkeep trigger genuinely punishing over time. In Modern and Pioneer, three mana for a 7/6 trample is a competitive rate, but the self-damage clause prices it out of most shells where you'd rather run Tarmogoyf or Sheoldred's effects. Legacy and Vintage have enough broken things happening that Ravenous Giant never made a dent. Standard is the one format where its raw stats can dominate a battlefield before the drain matters.
