Rapacious One card art
Rapacious One attacks and immediately starts printing Eldrazi Spawn tokens, turning combat damage into a mana engine that compounds with every unblocked swing. The ceiling is absurd — pair it with Aggravated Assault and you can chain extra combat steps off the tokens it generates, or feed the mana into Alena, Kessig Trapper // Gilanra, Caller of Wirewood for a power-based ritual that funds your entire turn.

Alena, Kessig Trapper // Gilanra, Caller of Wirewood turns Rapacious One's power into immediate mana the moment it attacks — the tokens it produces also feed Gilanra's draw trigger, making a single swing net you cards and red mana in the same breath.

Format Analysis

Commander is where Rapacious One earns its keep — the multi-player format means opponents can't always afford to chump every attack, and a single uncontested swing generates enough Spawn tokens to matter. Outside Commander, the card is legal in Legacy, Vintage, Modern, and Pauper, but a six-mana 5/4 with no immediate protection is too slow for competitive non-rotating formats where threats need to either win on the spot or come down earlier. Pauper is the one non-Commander context worth a look if you're building a dedicated Eldrazi Spawn synergy shell, but Rapacious One still has to survive until your next turn to deliver.

Price Context

Current price

$0.22 bulk tier

At $0.22, Rapacious One is pure bulk — easy to pick up in any quantity without thinking about cost. That price reflects its narrow application more than its ceiling; if Eldrazi Spawn synergies continue to accumulate new pieces, there's no reason it should ever become expensive, but it's also not going anywhere.
