Ranger Class puts a pump and pseudo-vigilance effect on the board for two mana, then scales into a repeatable draw engine the moment you commit to leveling it — the back half is where the real value lives. The Mortuary loop and Tovolar, Dire Overlord wolf-synergy builds both exploit the Level 3 ability specifically, so treat the early levels as ramp toward the payoff, not the payoff itself.

Tovolar, Dire Overlord
Tovolar, Dire Overlord already rewards you for fielding a wide board of wolves and werewolves, and Ranger Class layers on top by triggering its Level 3 draw whenever any of those creatures deal combat damage — synergy that compounds fast in a deck built to swing wide every turn.

In Commander, Ranger Class earns its slot in any green creature-heavy deck that can reliably deal combat damage — the Level 3 trigger converts board presence into card advantage at a rate that snowballs over a long game. Modern and Pioneer have seen it mostly in Mono-Green Stompy and creature toolbox shells, where the early +1/+1 boost is relevant and leveling up is realistic on curve. Legacy has better options at every level of this card's function, so it rarely competes there. Ranger Class is cleanest in formats where games go long enough to reach Level 3, which points squarely at Commander as its best home.

Price data isn't available in the current feed, so check Scryfall or TCGPlayer for the latest number. Ranger Class sees enough Commander play — over 14,000 decks on EDHREC — that it has held real demand since printing, and foil copies from its original release command a noticeable premium.
