Rampart Architect card art
Rampart Architect turns every Wall and Defender you control into a flying threat, stapling an evasion-granting engine onto a 2/4 Defender body for four mana. The cost is real — four mana is a significant ask for a support piece — but in any deck built around high-toughness creatures, Felothar the Steadfast included, the payoff is immediate and board-wide.

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Felothar the Steadfast

Felothar the Steadfast

78.2% of decks · synergy 0.67

Felothar the Steadfast is the natural home: Rampart Architect's flying anthem directly enables the go-wide aerial attacks Felothar rewards, and the 78% inclusion rate reflects how central that evasion package is to the strategy.

02
Betor, Kin to All

Betor, Kin to All

43.4% of decks · synergy 0.32

Betor, Kin to All cares about diverse creature types sharing buffs, and Rampart Architect slots in as a Defender that also unlocks flying for the team — a two-function piece in a deck that prizes efficiency.

03
Arcades, the Strategist

Arcades, the Strategist

20.8% of decks · synergy 0.19

Arcades, the Strategist is the classic Defender commander, and Rampart Architect pulls double duty there: it's a body that contributes to Arcades's draw trigger and simultaneously grants the entire Wall army flying, which is the primary evasion problem that deck otherwise has to solve with other slots.

04
The Pride of Hull Clade

The Pride of Hull Clade

15.5% of decks · synergy 0.15

The Pride of Hull Clade scales off high-toughness creatures, so Rampart Architect fits as both a contributor to the team's stat mass and a way to push those large-toughness bodies over blockers with flying.

oathbreaker

Rampart Architect is legal in Commander, Legacy, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but Commander is effectively its only home — the card's payoff requires a critical mass of Defenders on board, a condition that simply doesn't exist in the singleton-lite, faster formats where it's technically legal. In Legacy and Vintage, the Defender synergy package isn't a real archetype, so Rampart Architect sees no meaningful play there. Oathbreaker could theoretically support a Defender shell, but the shorter game length works against a four-mana setup piece. Commander is where Rampart Architect belongs, full stop.

Price Context

Current price

$0.31 bulk tier

At $0.31, Rampart Architect is firmly bulk — low enough that there's no financial barrier to picking up copies for any Defender build you're running. Bulk rares with narrow but genuine synergy like this tend to stay cheap indefinitely, so don't expect price movement in either direction.
