Rakdos Augermage puts a repeatable discard threat on the board — tap it, and an opponent discards a card of your choice at the cost of revealing your own hand. The activated ability is genuinely punishing, but a 3/2 first strike body for three mana that demands you show your hand every activation rarely earns its slot outside dedicated discard strategies.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Rakdos Augermage is a fringe inclusion for dedicated discard or Rakdos-aligned builds where stripping a single opponent's hand piece can be politically leveraged — but four opponents regenerate resources fast enough to make one-at-a-time discard look slow. Legacy and Vintage have Thoughtseize, Hymn to Tourach, and Cabal Therapy doing the same job without broadcasting your hand or requiring a tap, so Rakdos Augermage doesn't see real play there. It's legal in Modern but similarly outclassed by the efficiency of that format's discard suite. Oathbreaker is the most plausible home, where the reduced life total and faster pace make targeted hand disruption matter more per activation.

Price Context
Current price
$0.35 bulk tier
At $0.35, Rakdos Augermage is firmly bulk — you're paying almost nothing for a card that sees almost no play. That price is unlikely to move without an unlikely spike in discard-tribal Commander interest.
