Purify destroys all artifacts and enchantments simultaneously — no targeting, no exceptions, no survivors. Six mana is steep, but the unconditional symmetry makes it one of the most thorough board resets for noncreature permanents available in white.

Commander is where Purify earns its slot: multiplayer tables routinely accumulate artifacts and enchantments across four players, and a single casting can erase Smothering Tithe, Rhystic Study, and a Sol Ring in the same motion. It's legal in Legacy and Vintage as well, but those formats move too fast and interact too precisely for a six-mana sorcery with no targeting flexibility to compete. Oathbreaker shares Commander's permanent-accumulation dynamic, so Purify is playable there too — though the smaller card pool and faster games mean you'll want a lower curve elsewhere.
