Prism Array taps down every creature an opponent controls for each counter you place on it, which in a proliferate deck can lock a table out of combat entirely. The five-mana entry cost is real, but the payoff compounds every turn you proliferate.

Commander is where Prism Array actually belongs — proliferate synergies, multiple opponents to tap down, and enough turns to stack counters make it a genuine control piece. In Legacy, Modern, or Pioneer it's too slow and too narrow; those formats end before Prism Array's tap-down engine reaches critical mass. Oathbreaker shares enough of Commander's multiplayer DNA that it can work in a dedicated proliferate shell, but the smaller deck size makes consistency harder to justify.
