Plagiarize hands you every card an opponent draws for an entire turn — at instant speed, on their draw step, that routinely means four to seven cards in a single cast. Four mana is the full cost of that swing, and in Commander it's almost always worth it.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is where Plagiarize earns its slot — three opponents taking extra draws, wheeling, or running engine commanders like The Locust God means the ceiling on a single cast is enormous. In Legacy and Vintage it's legal but entirely outclassed; those formats move too fast for a four-mana reactive spell that does nothing to the board state. Modern has no practical home for it either, given the format's speed and the scarcity of draw-heavy opponents worth targeting. Plagiarize is a Commander card that happens to be printed with broader legality.

Price Context
Current price
$0.50 bulk tier
At $0.50, Plagiarize sits firmly in bulk territory despite being a genuine role-player in the right Commander shells. That price is unlikely to climb — it sees narrow play and has been available long enough to suppress demand — but for what it does in a Niv-Mizzet or Nekusar list, it's an easy include at essentially no cost.
