Pit Imp is a one-mana 1/1 flyer with a discard-to-pump ability — the floor is aggressively low and the ceiling never gets high enough to matter. Unless you're building around discard synergies specifically, there are strictly better one-drops for nearly every black strategy.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Pit Imp is legal in Commander, Legacy, Vintage, Pauper, and Oathbreaker, but legal doesn't mean playable. In Pauper, where commons fight for slots against Faerie Miscreant and Cuombajj Witches, Pit Imp's conditional pump doesn't clear the bar. Legacy and Vintage have zero interest in a 1/1 that needs fuel to trade with anything relevant. Commander is the only format where Pit Imp finds a theoretical home — specifically in Chainer, Nightmare Adept or Syr Konrad, the Grim shells that reward recurring discard loops — but even there it's a fringe include competing against engines that do more work per card.

Price Context
Current price
$0.15 bulk tier
At $0.15, Pit Imp is deep bulk — the kind of card that fills a penny bin rather than a buylist. Don't expect the price to move; demand is narrow enough that even a niche Commander breakout wouldn't push it past a quarter.
