Pilgrim of Virtue is a narrow protection piece that taxes red sources one damage at a time — useful exactly when your meta is full of Earthquake effects and burn spells, useless most other turns. A 1/3 for 1W with a cumulative upkeep ability is a real cost for conditional coverage.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |

| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |

In Commander, Pilgrim of Virtue occupies a niche anti-red role that rarely justifies a slot — you'd need a dedicated hate build targeting damage-based board wipes like Pyrohemia or Pestilence effects to make it worth the cumulative upkeep drain. In Pauper, the format's lower power ceiling means a taxing 1/3 body at two mana can pull more weight, especially in white-based control shells watching out for burn. Legacy and Vintage are non-starters — the effect is too narrow and the body too small to compete. Pauper is the only home where Pilgrim of Virtue is a plausible consideration.

Price Context
Current price
$0.10 bulk tier
At $0.10, Pilgrim of Virtue sits firmly in bulk territory where price is never the reason to leave it out of a deck. It holds that floor without moving — this is a card you pull from a box, not buy.
