Phantom Wings gives any creature flying and bounces it back to hand the moment it leaves the battlefield — a clean tempo play that doubles as soft removal or a way to reset your own enters-the-battlefield creatures. The catch is the one-mana equip and the delayed payoff: if the enchanted creature sticks around, you've spent a card to grant evasion on someone else's schedule.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Phantom Wings earns its slot in decks that want repeated bounce triggers — Brago, King Eternal and Alela, Artful Provocateur lists both appreciate the flying grant, and any deck built around flicker or aura synergies can squeeze extra value from the self-bounce clause. Outside Commander, Phantom Wings is legal in Legacy, Vintage, Modern, Pauper, and Oathbreaker, but it sees virtually no play in the competitive formats where one mana buys you harder interaction. Pauper is the format most likely to give it a real look, where evasion and tempo matter on a tighter budget and the bounce clause can set up repeated use with cheap fliers.

Price Context
Current price
unknown tier
Pricing data for Phantom Wings isn't currently available, but as a common-rarity aura with narrow competitive applications it almost certainly sits at bulk — expect to pay under $0.25. It's worth picking up in a bundle or bulk lot if the archetype fits, but there's no urgency to track down copies individually.
