Pest Rescuer card art
Pest Rescuer enters the battlefield and immediately returns a Pest token from your graveyard to your hand, giving you a free sacrifice trigger and a body all in one — that's real value at three mana. In life-gain-matters shells, that recursive loop feeds Aetherflux Reservoir or drains opponents through Dina, Essence Brewer before you've spent a single extra card.

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Dina, Essence Brewer

Dina, Essence Brewer

76.6% of decks · synergy 0.63

Dina, Essence Brewer drains the table every time you gain life, and Pest Rescuer's enter-the-battlefield loop keeps fueling sacrifices and life-gain triggers in a single play — Pest Rescuer shows up in over 76% of Dina, Essence Brewer lists for exactly this reason.

02
Blech, Loafing Pest

Blech, Loafing Pest

51.5% of decks · synergy 0.38

Blech, Loafing Pest wants a constant supply of Pest tokens to sacrifice for value, and Pest Rescuer recovers one from the bin the moment it lands, extending the engine without requiring extra setup.

03
Savra, Queen of the Golgari

Savra, Queen of the Golgari

36.0% of decks · synergy 0.22

Savra, Queen of the Golgari needs a steady stream of green and black creatures dying to fire her sacrifice triggers, and Pest Rescuer slots in as both a body and a recursive piece that keeps the fodder coming.

04
Dina, Soul Steeper

Dina, Soul Steeper

31.7% of decks · synergy 0.18

Dina, Soul Steeper rewards every life-gain event, so the incidental life Pest tokens generate on death combines naturally with Pest Rescuer's ability to loop them back into hand for another round.

05
Zimone and Dina

Zimone and Dina

17.9% of decks · synergy 0.18

Zimone and Dina leverage sacrifice and graveyard recursion across a wider game plan, and Pest Rescuer's self-contained value — body plus retrieval — makes it a clean inclusion that doesn't require additional support to earn its slot.

oathbreaker

Pest Rescuer's home is Commander, where the life-gain and sacrifice synergies it enables are easiest to exploit across a 100-card singleton format and a long game. In Legacy and Vintage, it's technically legal but far too slow — three mana for a 2/2 with a narrow graveyard effect doesn't register in those formats. Oathbreaker is a reasonable fit if your planeswalker and signature spell lean into Golgari sacrifice loops, though the smaller deck size compresses how often the loop matters. Outside Commander, Pest Rescuer simply doesn't have a format where it's competitive.

Price Context

Current price

$1.69 cheap tier

At $1.69, Pest Rescuer sits in budget territory — cheap enough to slot into any Golgari sacrifice or life-gain list without a second thought. That price is stable; it's not a spec target, but it's also not going anywhere given consistent Commander demand.
