Perilous Snare bounces an attacking or blocking creature and every Aura attached to it — a tempo swing that can strip a Voltron threat down to its base stats at instant speed. Samut, the Driving Force decks run it because the flash timing and combat disruption slot perfectly into a strategy that lives in opponents' attack steps.

Samut, the Driving Force
Samut, the Driving Force cares about untapping creatures and punishing opponents during combat, and Perilous Snare slots in as a combat trick that removes a blocker or kills an attacker's Aura package at exactly the moment it hurts most.

Mendicant Core, Guidelight
Mendicant Core, Guidelight runs Perilous Snare as cheap interaction that can set back an Aura-laden threat without requiring colored mana, fitting into a support shell that wants efficient, format-agnostic answers.

In Commander, Perilous Snare earns its slot specifically against Voltron and Aura-based strategies — bouncing a commander plus three Auras is a massive tempo hit for very little mana. Outside EDH, it's legal in Legacy, Vintage, Modern, Pioneer, and Standard, but those formats move fast enough that a reactive bounce without a permanent advantage rarely makes the cut over harder removal. Oathbreaker shares enough of Commander's singleton, multiplayer texture that the same Voltron-disruption logic applies. The card is not pauper-legal, which closes off the one format where cheap interaction without restriction might otherwise find a home.

$0.33 bulk tier
At $0.33, Perilous Snare sits firmly in bulk territory — pick it up without thinking twice if the Aura matchup is a problem in your meta. Bulk interaction with narrow but real upside tends to stay flat; don't expect the price to move.
