Pacifism neutralizes a creature's combat and activated abilities for two mana, but leaves the body on the board — and that's the catch. It's clean, cheap removal in formats where you're trading one-for-one, but anywhere opponents can sacrifice, blink, or bounce their own permanents, Pacifism hands them a free out.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t

In Commander, Pacifism is too fragile to rely on — enchantment removal is everywhere, and locking down one creature out of a hundred-card, four-player game rarely justifies the slot when Reality Shift and Generous Gift exist at the same cost or lower. In Pauper it sees the most legitimate play, where the removal suite is constrained by rarity and two mana for a hard lock is actually meaningful tempo. Standard and Pioneer players have historically used Pacifism as a budget-accessible option in white aggro or control shells when better auras aren't available, but it's rarely the first choice when unconditional exile effects are in the format. Legacy and Vintage simply have too many ways to invalidate an aura — it doesn't show up in those formats for good reason.

Price Context
Current price
$0.18 bulk tier
At $0.18, Pacifism is deep bulk — you'll find it in every common box at every game store without looking hard. The price floor is essentially zero, so there's no value consideration here; you run it because it's accessible, not because it's optimal.
