Order of Yawgmoth deals damage equal to its power to a player and makes that player discard a card — stapled onto a 2/2 with protection from white and first strike for four mana. That rate is too slow for competitive tables, but in a dedicated drain or discard strategy it reliably connects and strips hands.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Order of Yawgmoth is only legal in Commander, Legacy, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, and in practice it only shows up in Commander. Legacy and Vintage have access to far more efficient discard engines — Hymn to Tourach, Thoughtseize, Waste Not — so a four-mana 2/2 that requires combat damage to trigger doesn't clear the bar. Commander is where Order of Yawgmoth finds its niche: the longer game, larger life totals, and prevalence of discard and drain synergies let it function as a repeatable value piece rather than an embarrassingly slow threat.

Price Context
Current price
$0.15 bulk tier
At $0.15, Order of Yawgmoth is deep bulk — you're picking it out of a dollar box or grabbing a playset for the price of a sleeve. Demand is niche enough that the price is unlikely to move unless a high-profile discard commander gets printed and suddenly makes every discard-trigger card spike.
