Ordeal of Erebos turns any attacking creature into a repeatable discard threat, stripping two cards from an opponent's hand the moment it pops — and it pops fast with a commander that attacks regularly. The setup cost is real: you need three combat steps on the same creature, and in Commander that creature needs to survive long enough to matter.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Ordeal of Erebos sees essentially zero play in Modern, Pioneer, or Legacy — one-for-one Auras that require multiple attacks to pay off can't compete in formats where games end before the third combat. Commander is its natural home, specifically in decks built around a single voltron commander that attacks every turn anyway; the discard effect is cumulative damage that compounds alongside combat pressure. In Oathbreaker it's marginally more viable than the 60-card formats given the planeswalker-centric game plan sometimes extends the game, but it still asks too much setup for too little payoff unless the oathbreaker attacks repeatedly. Treat Ordeal of Erebos as a Commander-only card in practice.

$0.11 bulk tier
At $0.11, Ordeal of Erebos is deep bulk — the kind of card you pull from a box rather than buy. It won't appreciate; supply is enormous and constructed demand is nonexistent, so pick it up for pennies when you need it and don't think twice about the cost.
