O-Naginata card art
O-Naginata staples +3/+0 and trample onto any creature with power 3 or greater for a single mana — that's an enormous rate when you're already swinging with something large. Slicer, Hired Muscle is the canonical home: a 4/4 that attacks on every opponent's turn turns one equip into a repeating trample threat across the entire table.

Commanders with the highest synergy

01

Slicer, Hired Muscle

60.7% of decks · synergy 0.59

Slicer, Hired Muscle attacks during every opponent's combat step, and O-Naginata makes each of those swings a 7/4 trampler — opponents burning removal on a shared permanent now have to weigh losing it mid-rotation, which compounds the political pressure Slicer already generates.

02
Raiyuu, Storm's Edge

Raiyuu, Storm's Edge

12.6% of decks · synergy 0.12

Raiyuu, Storm's Edge rewards attacking with exactly one Warrior each combat step, and O-Naginata turns that lone attacker into a trample engine that's harder to chump — the +3/+0 also pushes Raiyuu itself past the threshold to equip for free on re-equip scenarios.

In Commander, O-Naginata earns its slot in any deck whose commander sits at power 3 or higher and wants to push through blockers — the one-mana equip cost is what separates it from slower Equipment that stall in the mid-game. In Legacy and Vintage it's legal but competes with a deep Equipment pool and rarely shows up outside of fringe Voltron builds. Modern has the same problem: Colossus Hammer and Shadowspear eat the available Equipment slots, and O-Naginata's narrower power-check condition keeps it on the bench. Its real home is Commander, where a single card turning a commander into an unblockable-adjacent threat for under a dollar of mana is just good value.

Price Context

Current price

$0.48 bulk tier

At $0.48, O-Naginata is bulk — pick it up without a second thought if the commander qualifies. Bulk Equipment with genuine mechanical upside tends to stay in this range indefinitely, so there's no urgency beyond "do you need it now."
