Nullify counters any creature or enchantment spell for two mana, which covers a wide enough slice of the threat landscape to earn serious consideration. The restriction to those two types is real, but in most Commander games it lines up cleanly enough that Nullify earns its slot over an unconditional three-mana counter.
Format Analysis

In Commander, Nullify sits in the second tier of cheap interaction — not Counterspell, but relevant when your meta is creature and enchantment heavy, and the two-mana cost is exactly what reactive blue decks want. In competitive formats like Legacy and Vintage, strictly conditional two-mana counters rarely make the cut when unconditional options exist at the same cost. Modern and Pioneer are similar: Nullify can see fringe sideboard play against enchantment-centric strategies, but it won't crack mainboards. Pauper is its best non-Commander home, where the card pool narrows and a two-mana answer to auras and creatures at common rarity has genuine utility.

Price Context
Current price
$0.06 bulk tier
At $0.06, Nullify is deep bulk — pick up a copy out of any common box and never think about it again. The price reflects supply, not ceiling; it won't appreciate, but it also costs nothing to include if the effect fits your deck.
