Nettling Curse forces a creature to attack each turn while taxing its controller three life whenever they block with it — a pressure tool that doubles as soft removal for a key blocker. Three mana for a conditional enchantment is a real cost, and it does nothing on its own, so it earns a slot only in decks built to exploit the forced-attack clause.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Nettling Curse occupies a niche in Goad-adjacent strategies and politics-driven red decks, where turning an opponent's biggest threat into a liability can redirect aggression around the table. Pauper is its best home — the card is legal and creature-centric aggro is common enough that forcing blocks at a life tax has genuine teeth in a lower-powered format. In Legacy, Modern, and Vintage it is functionally unplayable; those formats end too fast and offer too many efficient answers for a three-mana enchantment with no immediate impact to matter. Oathbreaker follows the same logic as Commander: niche but occasionally right in the correct shell.
