Necromantic Thirst turns any creature you control into a repeatable reanimation trigger — when that creature dies, you get a creature back from your graveyard tapped and attacking next turn. The catch is the enchant-a-creature setup and the one-turn delay, which makes it fragile and slow compared to almost every other black reanimation spell.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Necromantic Thirst sees essentially no play in competitive formats — Legacy, Vintage, and Modern all have access to far more efficient reanimation at instant speed or for less setup. Commander is the only home where it can find a niche, specifically in sacrifice-focused or Aristocrats shells where creatures die frequently and the enchanted creature is already earmarked for the bin. Pauper is technically a venue, but even there the four-mana enchantment competes with cheaper, more reliable recursion. The conditional trigger and tapped-attacking clause mean Necromantic Thirst rewards very specific board states rather than generic value.

Price Context
Current price
$0.14 bulk tier
At $0.14, Necromantic Thirst is deep bulk — you're paying for cardboard, not power. It holds no meaningful monetary value and is unlikely to spike given the abundance of superior black reanimation effects at every price point.
