Navigator's Compass enters tapped, gains you 1 life, and lets you tap it to change your land's basic type until end of turn — the entire package costs 1 mana to cast and 1 mana per activation. The fixing is narrow, the life gain is negligible, and better one-mana artifacts exist; Navigator's Compass is filler.
Format Analysis

In Commander, Navigator's Compass is outclassed by nearly every other fixing option at the same price point — a Prophetic Prism replaces itself, a Arcane Signet accelerates, and even a basic land does more work. The activated ability requires the land to already be in play and tapped, making it awkward in any deck that needs reliable off-color mana rather than occasional spot-fixing. In Pauper, the common-legal fixing pool is shallow enough that Navigator's Compass can find a fringe role in five-color or domain shells, though Traveler's Amulet and Terrarion generally do more. Across Legacy, Modern, Pioneer, and Vintage, the card never sees play — those formats have access to far more efficient fixing and the life gain is not a meaningful upside.

Price Context
Current price
$0.22 bulk tier
At $0.22, Navigator's Compass sits firmly in bulk territory — it's a card you pick out of a box, not one you purchase. Bulk artifacts at this price point don't hold value; there's no demand driver that would move it upward.
