Narrow Escape bounces one of your permanents to your hand and replaces itself — you pay one white mana to dodge a removal spell, reset an enters-the-battlefield trigger, or save a commander from exile. The card is narrow by design and earns its slot only in decks that actively exploit the bounce.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Narrow Escape is a role-player in blink and ETB-value decks — one mana to protect a key piece or replay a trigger is a real rate, but it competes with Ephemerate and Momentary Blink, which do the same job with more upside. In Pauper, the common-card-pool constraint makes it more relevant, particularly in white-based flicker shells where redundancy matters and alternatives are limited. Legacy and Vintage are non-starters; the effect is too small for those formats. Narrow Escape is essentially a Commander and Pauper card, and even there it's a flex slot rather than a staple.

Price Context
Current price
$0.10 bulk tier
At $0.10, Narrow Escape is deep bulk — you're not paying for the card, you're paying for shipping. That price is stable in the sense that bulk commons don't move, not in the sense that it signals hidden value.
