Mourning card art
Mourning cuts a creature's power to zero for one black mana — a cheap, permanent soft-lock that shuts off combat damage entirely until the enchantment leaves. Outside of K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth shells that exploit black pips for life-payment, there are almost no decks where this outperforms a removal spell.

Format Analysis

oathbreaker

Mourning is legal in Commander, Legacy, Vintage, Pauper, and Oathbreaker, and sees essentially no competitive play in any of them. In Commander it occasionally appears in dedicated pillow-fort or stax lists as a cheap, repeatable way to neuter one threat, but sorcery-speed enchantment removal is everywhere and the effect doesn't scale to a four-player table. Pauper is the one format where Mourning has seen fringe use, since the power-reduction effect is harder to answer at common rarity and tempo matters more, but even there it rarely makes the cut over outright removal.

Price Context

Current price

$0.12 bulk tier

At $0.12, Mourning is deep bulk — a card you pull from a common box, not one you buy. That price is stable by default: there's no realistic spike scenario for a narrow aura with no combo pedigree.
