Mossfire Egg is a two-mana artifact that cracks for one red or green mana and replaces itself with a card draw — slow, conditional ramp that costs you a full turn to set up. Unless your deck specifically rewards sacrificing artifacts or putting eggs in the graveyard, there are strictly better options at every price point.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Mossfire Egg sees essentially no competitive play in the formats where it's legal. In Commander, it occasionally appears in Glissa, the Traitor or Sharuum the Hegemon shells that want cheap artifacts to sacrifice or recur, but it's a fringe inclusion even there. Legacy and Vintage have access to Mox Opal, Chrome Mox, and the full suite of fast mana, which makes a three-turn payoff artifact irrelevant. Oathbreaker follows the same logic as Commander — if you're not building around artifact sacrifice synergies specifically, Mossfire Egg doesn't make the cut.

Price Context
Current price
$0.31 bulk tier
At $0.31, Mossfire Egg is bulk, and it will stay there — demand is too narrow to push the price anywhere. If you need it for an artifact-sacrifice build, it's an easy pickup, but don't expect the price to move in either direction.
