Mortiphobia card art
Mortiphobia makes each opponent discard a card at the start of their upkeep — recurring, symmetric pressure stapled to a permanent that sits on the board and grinds without further investment. Three mana for an enchantment that forces a discard every rotation is solid rate, and in a dedicated discard-matters shell it pulls double duty as both enabler and threat.

Format Analysis

Commander is where Mortiphobia earns its keep — three opponents each losing a card every turn cycle means the table hemorrhages resources fast, and any commander that rewards discarding (Tinybones, Rankle, the Obosh-adjacent Rakdos piles) turns that pressure into a material advantage. Legacy and Vintage are technically legal but Mortiphobia is too slow and too low-impact for formats where the game ends before the enchantment generates enough value to matter. Oathbreaker mirrors the Commander logic at a smaller table, still viable in the right discard-themed pairing.

Price Context

Current price

$0.27 bulk tier

At $0.27, Mortiphobia sits firmly in bulk territory — you're not buying it for the price tag, you're buying it because it does something no other card in that bin does. Bulk enchantments with repeating discard text don't spike unless a new commander breaks the archetype wide open, so expect it to stay in this range unless the metagame shifts hard toward discard-punisher strategies.
