Mortal Obstinacy puts a +1/+1 counter on a creature and strips an enchantment or artifact from the battlefield — all for one white mana. The catch is that it only hits permanents attached to creatures, so it's dead against artifacts and enchantments sitting on their own.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |

| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Mortal Obstinacy is a narrow answer: it handles Auras and Equipment, but most threats you need to answer aren't attached to anything, which limits its slot justification in a 100-card singleton format. Pauper is where it sees the most competitive relevance, since Aura-heavy and Equipment-based synergies are common at that power band and the +1/+1 counter isn't irrelevant. In Modern and Pioneer, Mortal Obstinacy is squeezed out by removal that doesn't require a legal target to already be equipped or enchanted. Legacy and Vintage have more powerful one-mana interaction at every angle, so it doesn't register there.

Price Context
Current price
$0.12 bulk tier
At $0.12, Mortal Obstinacy is deep bulk — you're paying for cardboard, not scarcity. It won't climb in value; the ceiling is defined entirely by utility, and the conditional targeting keeps demand low across all formats.
