Morselhoarder enters with two -1/-1 counters you can remove for mana, making it a self-contained source of two hybrid mana the turn it lands — and in a graveyard deck, that ability living on Necrotic Ooze is the whole reason it exists. Outside of dedicated combo shells, the payoff evaporates fast.

Morselhoarder is a Commander card first and almost exclusively. In graveyard-based combo decks it enables infinite mana loops through Necrotic Ooze, which is the only context where it earns a slot at any table. Pauper is the one other format worth mentioning — it's legal there, but the activated mana ability is too slow and too small to matter in a format built around efficient commons. Legacy and Vintage have no interest: the effect is parasitic and the rate is embarrassing next to what those formats do on turn two. Morselhoarder is a one-format card wearing a multi-format costume.
