Molting Skin regenerates a creature for two mana and then returns itself to your hand at the next upkeep — the protection is reusable as long as you keep paying. In green decks that can flood the board with Phyrexian mana payoffs like Defiler of Vigor, that recursive insurance is genuinely worth a deck slot.
Format Analysis

Molting Skin is a fringe card in every format it's legal in. Commander is its best home by far — the grind-oriented nature of longer games rewards the recursive loop, and green creature builds with high-value targets justify the two-mana regeneration investment. In Legacy and Vintage, the card is too slow and too narrow to compete with the interaction density at those tables. Modern is technically legal but Molting Skin has no realistic role there either.

$0.35 bulk tier
At $0.35, Molting Skin sits firmly in bulk territory — you're paying almost nothing for a niche but functional effect. Bulk rares don't typically appreciate unless a new commander pushes demand, so treat this as a cheap pickup when you need it, not a spec.
