Mistmoon Griffin card art
Mistmoon Griffin replaces itself with a creature from your graveyard when it dies — a tidy value loop that costs four mana for a 2/2 flier, which is a steep rate by any modern standard. In Hofri Ghostforge decks it becomes a repeatable engine, but outside of dedicated recursion shells it's too slow and too fragile to justify the slot.

Mistmoon Griffin is legal in Commander, Legacy, Vintage, Pauper, and Oathbreaker, but the formats where it sees any real play are narrow. In Pauper its recursive trigger is genuinely interesting since the format runs fewer instant-speed answers and grindy loops have more room to breathe. In Commander it earns its slot only in decks built around death triggers or spirit synergies — elsewhere the four-mana 2/2 body makes it an easy cut. Legacy and Vintage have no interest; those formats don't have time for a four-mana creature that requires a death to generate value.

Pricing data for Mistmoon Griffin isn't currently available, so check Scryfall or TCGPlayer for a live figure. It's an older, low-demand card with no competitive presence, so copies tend to sit in bulk bins — don't expect to pay more than a few cents if you track one down.
