Mind Stone card art
Mind Stone does two things most two-mana rocks don't: it taps for colorless on turn two and converts into a card when you no longer need the mana. The one real trade-off is that colorless mana hurts in three- and four-color decks with greedy pip requirements — but in artifacts-matter builds like Glissa, the Traitor, that limitation barely registers.

Where It Shines

Where the extra mana on turn one matters most

01

Big-mana shells like Ms. Bumbleflower

Ms. Bumbleflower wants to hit four or five mana as early as possible to start chaining spells, and Mind Stone accelerates that clock by a full turn while offering a late-game card draw escape hatch once the engine is running.

Format Analysis

Where it lives, where it can’t

oathbreaker

Commander is where Mind Stone earns its reputation — 100-card singleton means every consistent two-mana rock matters, and the ability to cash it in for a card mid- to late-game is genuinely unique at this price point. In Pauper it sees play as a colorless rock in artifact synergy shells, though competition is stiffer at common. Legacy and Vintage have access to Mox and Lotus effects that make a two-mana rock irrelevant in most builds. Oathbreaker mirrors Commander's logic and it fits there for the same reasons.

Price Context

Current price

$4.56 cheap tier

At $4.56, Mind Stone sits at the affordable end of reliable two-mana ramp — cheap enough to slot into any Commander deck without budget justification. It's been reprinted often enough that the price has stayed flat for years, so there's no timing pressure either way.
