Merfolk Wayfinder enters the battlefield and puts an Island into your hand — not onto the battlefield — which makes it a three-mana spell that replaces itself with a land only if you control another Merfolk. That conditional and the lack of any enters-the-battlefield acceleration make it a fringe inclusion even in dedicated Merfolk tribal builds.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t

In Commander, Merfolk Wayfinder shows up almost exclusively in Merfolk tribal decks where the creature type itself generates value — think Kumena, Tyrant of Orazca or Vorel of the Hull Clade shells that want bodies more than they want the land. In Legacy and Vintage, it sees no meaningful play; those formats have Aether Vial and Force of Will, and a conditional hand-filler at three mana doesn't make the cut. Modern is similarly unkind — Merfolk there runs lean and aggressive, and Merfolk Wayfinder's effect is too slow and too dependent on board state to earn a slot.

At $0.08, Merfolk Wayfinder is deep bulk — you'll find copies in any dollar bin without looking hard. The price reflects its narrow playability accurately, and there's no realistic ceiling pressure to worry about.
