Melira, Sylvok Outcast card art
Melira, Sylvok Outcast shuts off poison counters and infect entirely while enabling infinite sacrifice loops — pair her with Viscera Seer and any persist creature and you have an instant-win engine on a two-mana body. She's one of the most efficient combo pieces in green, and the static protection effect pulls double duty against infect strategies.

In Commander, Melira, Sylvok Outcast is a staple combo piece rather than a commander herself — she shows up as a redundant persist-loop enabler in Mikaeus, the Unhallowed and Tayam, Luminous Enigma builds, and doubles as a free hate piece in metas with infect decks. In Modern she earned a long run in Abzan Melira-Pod and its successors, and while Birthing Pod is banned, she still sees occasional play in creature-toolbox shells that want the combo line available off a tutor. Legacy and Vintage can run her but rarely do — the combo is too slow for those formats and better enablers exist. She's locked out of Pioneer, Standard, and Pauper entirely.

Budget Alternatives

Cheaper options that do most of the same work

There's no true budget replacement for Melira, Sylvok Outcast because her specific interaction with persist is unique — no other card removes the -1/-1 counter drawback in the same way. If the goal is just poison and infect hate, Melira, the Living Hope is the closest analogue and can even serve as a commander, though it doesn't enable the persist loop that makes Melira, Sylvok Outcast a combo piece.

Price Context

Current price

$5.99 mid tier

At $5.99, Melira, Sylvok Outcast sits in the mid tier — reasonable for a card that anchors a complete win condition in Commander and has Modern playability as a bonus. The price is stable; she's been reprinted enough to stay accessible but sees enough real play to keep her off the bulk shelf.
